Camptothecin is an alkaloid derived from the chinese tree Camptotheca acuminata Decne. Camptothecin and its derivatives are unique in their ability to inhibit DNA TopoisomeraseⅠ, by stabilizing a covalent reaction intermediate termed the cleavable complex which ultimately causes tumor cell death.
